Mission: Life Sponsorships
What is a sponsorship?
A sponsorship is a sum of money given to Piscataway FBLA from a local business to fund the game. Members of the sponsorship committee go out to businesses in Piscataway to request sponsorships. It is important to note, sponsorships are not donations, we get sponsorships on the understanding that we provide the sponsor with advertising during the game.
Why are they important?
Sponsorships are the lifeblood of Mission: Life. The initial capital from sponsorships allows Piscataway FBLA to fund and run the event to raise money, as well as purchase food and drinks to sell at the event.
Who gives sponsorships? Why should I go and get them?
Sponsorships are given to us by local businesses. At businesses where employees are encountered first, it is imperative to talk to a manager, as they are the ones who can give sponsorships. The standard sponsorship prices are $25, $50, $75, and $100.00.
Members are encouraged to get sponsorships for not only the point rewards associated with getting sponsorships (see the points page here), but also for the good of FBLA. As discussed above, sponsorships are the driving force behind getting Mission: Life up and running. Furthermore, getting sponsorships gives valuable business and marketing experience that can be helpful in many careers.

Getting a sponsorship
Getting a sponsorship requires going to businesses and talking to managers and proprietors. Interested businesses must fill out forms giving us the information needed for advertising, as well as for identification. Forms will be distributed during runs.
Guidelines and Instructions:
Only send a couple people in at a time. Approach with a smile and enthusiasm. If you don’t care about it neither will they!
To a store clerk:
Hello, my name is ____________ and I am from Piscataway High School FBLA. Is there a manager I could speak to?
IF NO: Leave and come back later.
To the manager/owner:
Hello, my name is ____________and I am from Piscataway High School FBLA. We are hosting a charity basketball game at our school on April 5th, 2019 and we’re looking for donors to sponsor our event in exchange for advertising in a booklet we give out to all the attendees. We have 4 packages: [SHOW EXAMPLES IF YOU HAVE A BOOKLET] A basic $25 package to print the name and location of your business, a $50 package to print a business card, a $75 package to print a half-page advertisement, or a $100 package to print a full page advertisement. We’re expecting around _____ people to attend the event so it’s a great promotion opportunity! Would you happen to be interested?
IF YES: Give them a form and have them sign it. They keep one copy and give you one copy. Do not leave forms behind and make sure to get the money from them immediately. Checks are preferable to money. Politely insist they give you a check and if they don’t have, take cash as a last resort.
IF NO: Politely thank them for their time and leave.
IF MAYBE/MANAGER NOT HERE: Write down the name of the business and we will revisit on reruns.
Use your good judgement—if a manager does not seem interested don’t waste too much time pitching to them.
Remember, you get POINTS for gaining sponsors, so try your best!
This is by no means exactly what you have to say—it is just a general guideline. Be creative and as persuasive as possible and have fun!
